GENESIS COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Bronx resident Genesis is a hairstylist at Dramatics NYC’s 57th Street location in Manhattan between 8th and 9th Avenues. As someone who believes in the importance of community outreach, she is going to be doing hair fashions as well as performing in a show for kids coming up on June 9th at the Morrisania Branch of the New York Public Library in the Bronx. The program is held annually in different library branches throughout New York City and celebrates SummerReadingNYC.org by running a contest in which kids 0 to teen write a three paragraph story inspired by his or her favorite Summer Reading NYC book. The top winning story is awarded a Platinum Pia and the two runner ups are performed along with the top winner at next year’s library branch choice.

One of the top pick stories from last year is the Pia winning “The Pony That Wanted to Ride a Skateboard.” In this inspirational tale about a Pony - his mother, father and brother tell him he’ll never succeed at riding a skateboard but through believing in himself he proves them wrong. In the end it turns out that it wasn’t that the mother was discouraging her pony son from succeeding, she just wanted him to ride his board safely and wear protective gear. Genesis, who in real life is a good mom will be playing the pony’s mother in the story.

Her own stories of motherhood are very interesting in which she raised her kids in the Bronx and taught them in part through reading them stories and fables that had important developmental messages to them. She was a volunteer for years at the local Bronx PS62 where she does hair for not only a teacher but that teacher’s husband and kids.

One of the reasons doing a Lights Camera Read event is so important to her is because she wants to be a part of teaching  local children in the community good values. Also, Genesis is looking forward to having an opportunity to flex her hair fashion muscles by creating the hair for Mother Goose who is being played by the Lights Camera Read show’s director, Alison Stamas.

And finally, as a way to say thank you to her valued Dramatics NYC clients on 57th Street is doing by giving them a gift certificate that they can print out and bring to her at their next visit. This certificate entitles the presenter to receiving either 10 dollars off on chemical services or 5 dollars off haircuts. To redeem certificate have a picture of your result taken with Genesis and then post it on your Facebook with a link to this BronxNYCNews.com article which will be your own special opportunity to participate in and build awareness for community outreach.

as she did for ten years in the school ps62, she will be volunteering doing hair as well as performing in a New York Public Library. Plus she does hair for one of the teachers, her husband and her three kids 15 years later.

As seen in BronxNewsNYC.com, family and community outreach are both very important to Genesis, a stylist at Dramatics NYC. Ask her about how she is doing the hair for Mother Goose and playing the mama of a pony in the New York Public Library’s LightsCameraRead.com show. Plus, find out how you can get the gift certificate where you can receive $10.00 off on any chemical services or $5.00 off for haircuts when you take a picture with Genesis of your result and post it on your Facebook account with a link to the story on her in www.BronxNewsNYC.com.
